"Introduction to VICNISS" and "Reports Interpretation" Workshops
"Introduction to VICNISS" and "Reports Interpretation" workshops are held as and when required.
For more information, please contact VICNISS.
The 'Introductory Workshop' is designed for surveillance newcomers or ICPs that would like a refresher on VICNISS surveillance principles and
any changes. The 'Reports Workshop' outlines how to read reports and interpret your results. The 'User Group' is a forum for VICNISS users to
share their experiences and discuss issues arising from surveillance (SSI, ICU, SAB, CDI, Hand Hygiene etc) and suggest improvements.
You do not need to attend the workshops to participate in the user group.
So, if you are new to surveillance or, have never attended one of these sessions it is probably time. If you or a member of your team
require any further information contact Judy.Brett @ mh.org.au, or phone 9342 2605.
Past Workshops
"Introduction/Basic" workshops have been held about twice a year to assist the number of new
infection control nurses that have joined VICNISS participating sites. Content for the workshop included introductions
to HAI surveillance, and VICNISS surveillance methodology (SSI and ICU), instruction on the basic and modified risk
index and SIR for CSEC and AB prophylaxis, and understanding and interpreting reports.
"Reports" workshops have also been held, covering "p values" and "confidence intervals" as well
as "interpretation of reports". Participant feedback indicated they felt the workshop was of great value.
Workshops for Type 1 hospitals were conducted in three phases in 2002-2003 to introduce Type 1 participants to
VICNISS and the surveillance methods. The feedback was very positive.
