Hand Hygiene Update
Remember only Gold Standard Auditors are able to train other staff in hand hygiene auditing in their institutions and only validated auditors may
submit Hand Hygiene compliance data to the Department of Health.
Please note the previously advertised one day refresher/update workshop for Gold Standard Auditors to be held on 9th September 2010 has been
cancelled. Hand Hygiene Australia will instead be inviting all Gold Standard Auditors to attend their first Gold Standard Annual Update Forum in
October. There will be forums held in each state with both metro and regional sessions to be held in Victoria. Further details will be provided as
soon as available.
The two day Gold Standard Auditor Training Workshop (for those new to hand hygiene auditing) will still be run:

Spaces are extremely limited so please RSVP early to secure your place.
The National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI) Audit Three 2010 is now available to be added to your organisation in the Hand Hygiene Compliance
Application (HHCApp). Data for Audit 3 2010 can then be entered. Refer to pages 2 and 8 of the HHCApp instruction manual which is available using
this link if required -
The hand hygiene compliance and Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB) data for Period 3, 2010 is due by
12th November 2010. Hand Hygiene data will not be able to be entered into HHCApp after this time.

Type 1 & 2 Surveillance Data Collection & Reports
The Staphylococcus aureus (SAB) reports have been improved for Quarter 4 2009-2010. Most importantly the new look reports will enable hospitals
to differentiate between Healthcare Associated SABs that were attributable to their facility and those that were not.
FYI: Did you know VICNISS actually prefers to receive surveillance data on a monthly basis?
Why not avoid the last minute rush each quarter and ensure you don’t forget the due date by submitting your data monthly.
SSI Module - It also facilitates the process of data checking if different procedure groups are listed separately on the fax cover sheet/s.
** Type 2 ** - Please note the monthly Type 2 data summary form is to be submitted online. Previously, this data summary form was simultaneously used
as a cover form when faxing data. There is a new recently developed cover form that can be used for this purpose.
